A wallet made of a single sheet of seamless material. A surprisingly light jacket combining leather with cotton. The innovative works of designer Taichiro Hashimoto have given the notion of “heavy leather” a makeover. He is currently working on a bag inspired by kigumiarchitecture, which does not use a single nail. Meet the man who looks to break through in the established world of leather, with a line of surprising Japan-made leather goods.
Hashimoto launched his brand in 2006. From the start, he has surprised the fashion world with items such as tie-dyed leather jackets and denim-inspired leather pants. His leather and cotton jacket is machine-washable, and can even be worn in the summer months. Hashimoto believes there is much room left for innovation with the textile.
We join the designer as he heads to the famous production region of Himeji, Hyogo to develop his ideal leather with a tanning factory. From there, watch as he selects a pattern from nearly a hundred ideas to create one truly stunning bag.
